The Streets - Cyberspace And Reds (Quick Review)

New feature, the Quick Review. Mostly because i'm lazy and i know you can't be bothered to read any more than a couple of lines ;)

The Streets - Cyberspace And Reds

Free-Album-The-Streets-Cyberspace-and-Reds.jpg

This 14 track strong mixtape from Mike Skinner (aka The Streets) features many grime and hip hop mc's but can not be pinned down as either genre. Cyberspace and Reds (the name parodying the title of his next album, Computers and Blues)  is certainly a Streets creation, including his signature 'not quite rapping, almost chatting' style. It is also very different to any of his previous releases, partly because of the use of so many different MCs and also because it doe not feature much singing.

Positive

It is very different from any other mixtape out at the moment, it shows how much Grime could progress. Good experimentation,  Mike Skinner's slightly a genius.

Negative (THIS SECTION IS MAINLY ME GOING OFF ON ONE, SKIP IF YOU WANT)

Sometimes the featuring MCs spat about completely different subjects to what Skinner's lines are and even the title of the song. This is apperent in the track Cinema Barz, where Skinner's verse all corresponds to the title but Jammer's verse is the same as always (boasting etc) and also on the track 'Robots are taking over' where the first two MCs talk on one subject and then Frisco just lays down some average bars.. I was hoping the mixtape would be more of an outlet for the MCs to create interesting lyrics, such as on Ed Sheeran's 'No 5 Collaberation Project'. Although this is shown in some of the songs on C&R, for instance the track 'Breakbat Barz' featuring Scrufizzer.

My Favourite Tracks

Breakbat Barz (ft Scrufizzer)
Minding My Own (ft Wretch 32)
Tidy, Nice and Neat (ft ghostpoet)
Cross That Line (ft Fumin)
Backseat Barz (ft Loudmouth)

Rating

7/10

Download original Cyberspace and Reds mixtape here
Download the extra tracks 'At the Back of the Line' and 'Something to hide' (apparently Mike Skinner's last ever song rapping), as well as revised versions of 'Robots Are Taking Over' and 'Backseat Barz'  here!

SCRUFIZZER

Scrufizzer from West London goes hard on a track, with a skippy, fast flow that I haven't heard from any other MC so far. He also produces and was partly responsible for the famous grime instrumental 'Stimpy and Scruface - Nutty Violins'.

Check out his first mixtape. 'My First Steps' here.

also watch this mad freestyle on SB.TV...

THE WORD ON CREPS

At the moment, the creps I'm really feeling are Vans. Even though they were first made as skateboarding shoes, but I'm seeing more and more people rockin' them instead of the usual Nike and Adidas. I went got myself some the other day. Its mainly the Era, Authentic, and 106 ranges that are doing it, I don't think i'll ever get people that wear them checkered slipon ones but whatever. So yeah, Vans are the new thing on road, get to know :)

cop em here,

Kid Danger a.k.a. KD the Artist

I caught up with 15 year old Birmingham producer Kid Danger earlier this week, this is what he had to say...

BzkBlog: How long have you produced for and what type of music do you make?

Kid Danger: I've been messing about with beat making software such as Fruity loops and reason since about 2007, but have been producing seriously since about mid 2008. I try and produce any genre that i like but i find that my strengths in producing lie mostly in Grime with a bit of UK Funky and Hip Hop for good measure.

BB: What projects are you currently working on?

KDWell I'm currently work on a 4 Volume EP series called Kid With The Talent which will be available for free download. The first volume is out now and recieved a good response with around 100 downloads which is good for my first ever release. Im about to release the next 4 tracks for volume 2. Aside from my EPs im working with a few Vocalists such as MP, Breeza and Stunna Kai to name a few.

BB: Sounds good, so what are your aims for the future?

KD: My aims for the near future are 1) to establish a bigger and loyal fanbase in birmingham, 2) Work with more Vocalists 3) Make good music for people to enjoy

BB: If u could make a grime super crew, with 5 mc's with at least one female, 2 producers and one Dj, who would you chose?

KD: Let me see... i would have NoLay one of my favourite MCs male or female, then Frisco, Wiley, Durrty Goodz, Tinchy and Big H, the producers would be Rude Kid and Nocturnal and the DJ would be Logan Sama or Spyro cant decide?

BB: Any final words and anyone you want to shout to out to?

KD: Big up DJ Sensor and DJ Baxter, for promoting up and coming producers like me, big up everyone that takes an interest and supports my music and obviously big up BZK lol.

Crazy Titch - Crazy Times 2

Crazy Titch, one of grime's founding members, currently serving a life sentence for murder, is about to release the long awaited sequel to his mixtape 'Crazy Times'. When I saw that 'Crazy Times 2' was up for pre order on ukrecordshop.com I almost didn't cop it, I don't want to give my money to a murderer, but then I realised it was just too big a release to miss. The CD has features from some of grime's biggest names; including Griminal, Lil Nasty and Ghetts who also hosts the mixtape. I'm hyped for when the package drops through my door in a couple weeks and I'm probably going to put a review up here. Also check out my youtube page 'KamehamehaTV' as I'm going to try to be the first to upload the tracks. For now there's two tunes that have been leaked onto youtube...

Also a good time to remember his BIG oldschool tunes...

Safe.
